James Bellett Richey

Sir James Bellet Richey, KCIE, CSI (1834 – 27 June 1902) was a British administrator in Bombay Presidency.

He was educated at Exeter College, Oxford, and joined the Bombay Civil Service in 1856.

In 1885 he became chief secretary to the Government of Bombay, covering the political, secret, judicial, educational and separate departments.

He was nominated an acting member of the Council of the Governor in 1886, and confirmed as such the following year, when he was also appointed a Companion of the Order of the Star of India (CSI).

[1] He retired from the service in 1890, and was created a Knight Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire (KCIE) in the 1890 Birthday Honours.
