James Jacobus Roosevelt

Roosevelt was born on October 25, 1759, in New York City.

He was the sixth of seven children born to Jacobus James Roosevelt (1724–1777) and Annetje Bogert (1728–1773).

[4] During the American Revolutionary War, Roosevelt was a commissary for the troops in New York.

[6] On February 28, 1835, due to the fact that he was a native or resident of what is now the City or State of New York prior to the year 1785, his son James was elected a member of the Saint Nicholas Society of the City of New York, upon its inception.

Upon his death, he bequeathed a large fortune to his children, making his son Cornelius one of the five richest men in New York City.
