Sir James Sheppard (c. 1681–1730), of Watton Court, Honiton, and Lawell, Chudleigh, Devon, was a British lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1711 and 1730.
[1] At the 1710 British general election, Sheppard stood for Parliament as a Tory at Honiton but was caught up in a double return.
He was listed as one of the ‘worthy patriots’ who detected the mismanagements of the previous ministry and was a member of the October Club.
[2] Sheppard succumbed to gaol fever, and died on 10 April 1730, aged 49.
