She is best known for work on the pronunciation of British and Hong Kong English, and on speech prosody in atypical populations.
Jane Setter attended Dane Court Grammar School, Broadstairs, Kent, before taking Language Studies and English at the College of Ripon and York St John (then part of the University of Leeds).
