[2] Since 1 November 2024, Schuit has been rector magnificus of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), succeeding Annelien Bredenoord.
[2][3] She has been professor of health, behaviour and society at Tilburg University since 2017, and previously served as vice-rector magnificus on its board of directors from November 2020 until October 2024.
[2][3] She obtained her master of science there in 1989, before earning her PhD in 1997 on research into the effect of an exercise programme on risk factors for cardiovascular disease in elderly people.
[5] Together with president Annelien Bredenoord (the previous rector) and vice-president Ellen van Schoten, Schuit constituted the first all-female board of directors at a Dutch university in history.
[6] Furthermore, she immediately had to make difficult choices due to announced severe cuts in higher education, whereas, as far as she was concerned, there was a need to invest in the knowledge economy.
