His first state selection for Queensland came in 2006 as stroke of the youth eight competing for the Noel F Wilkinson Trophy at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships.
[4] In those same years 2010 to 2012 he was also the Queensland single sculls representative racing for the President's Cup at the Interstate Regatta.
[6] Bidwell's Australian representative debut came in 2008 at the World Rowing U23 Championships in Brandenburg, Germany in a quad scull which placed fifth.
[7] At the 2009 World Rowing Championships in Poznań he finished 2nd in the men's quadruple sculls (M4x) event, along with Nick Hudson, David Crawshay, and Daniel Noonan.
He was vying for a seat in the Australian crewed sculls for the 2012 London Olympics but missed selection and raced in a double scull with Scott Brennan at the World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne that year.
