Jean-Claude Rivest

Jean-Claude Rivest (born January 27, 1943) is a Canadian lawyer, former politician and Senator.

Born in L'Assomption, Quebec, the son of Victor Rivest and Yvette Lafortune, he studied law at the Université de Montréal.

From 1976 to 1979, he worked for Gérard D. Levesque, leader of the Official Opposition in the National Assembly of Quebec.

In 1979, he was elected to the National Assembly as a Liberal Party candidate in a by-election in the riding of Jean-Talon.

He was appointed to the Senate on the recommendation of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in 1993.
