Jean Andrews (1923 – 7 January, 2010) also self titled the 'Pepper Lady,' was an American naturalist, author and educator.
Beginning at a young age, she spent time collecting wild peppers also called chiltepins, which are native to South Texas.
Andrews had previously given up painting due to the sudden death of her daughter, Jinxy, who had passed away in a car crash.
[4] In order to honor her child, Andrews decided to continue painting in a move she called the 'Jinxy Principle.
[2] After learning how to scuba dive, she set out to explore many of the world's famous coastline including the Philippines, The Great Barrier Reef, Canary Islands, Panama, Costa Rica, and the Red Sea, collecting shells from around the world.
[2] She then took her fascination with peppers global and began traveling the world in search of new chilies to grow by herself and experiment with in her cooking.
[5] Andrews was an embroiderer since her childhood, which helped set up and fund an artisan group in Costa Rica called the Cooperative Artesania Santa Elena y Monteverde.
