Jean Williamson

Her parents were Ada Mary Theobald (born Hannell) and John Alexander Williamson.

After a private education she began contributing articles as a freelance to newspapers and the Australian Town and Country Journal.

[1] The Australian Women's Weekly was started in 1933 by Frank Packer and Ted Theodore with George Warnecke as the first editor.

[3] Williamson was hired in June 1933 (moving from the Sydney Morning Herald) where she was surprised to find that she was the editor for "fiction"[1] and her column was called "New Books".

Australian authors included Margot Neville, Mary Gilmore, Lennie Lower and Henrietta Drake-Brockman.
