After the 2004 election, he became the chairperson of the provincial parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA).
[2] Gelderblom was elected to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament as a representative of the New National Party.
In December 2001, Gelderblom was appointed by NNP premier Peter Marais as the Minister of Agriculture, Tourism and Gambling.
