At his retirement in 2019, Savage was one of the longest-serving faculty members in Brown's history.
[1] Savage earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1965, under the supervision of Irwin M.
[2] After leaving MIT, he worked briefly for Bell Laboratories before joining the Brown faculty in 1967.
[3] In 1979 he and Andries Van Dam co-founded Brown's Computer Science program.
[4] Savage was named an ACM Fellow for "fundamental contributions to theoretical computer science, information theory, and VLSI design, analysis and synthesis".
