He lived on a farm, and attended public schools and Franklin College in New Athens, Ohio.
He enrolled in the University of Michigan Law School in October 1866, and was admitted to the bar in December 1867.
In October 1871, he was elected Auditor of Clark County, Ohio, and re-elected in 1873.
[3] In 1879, he was nominated by the Republicans for Ohio State Auditor, and defeated Democrat Charles Reemelin in the autumn for a four-year term.
Oglevee died April 25, 1903, and is interred in Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
