John H. Derby

John Hamilton Derby (June 20, 1845 – November 26, 1925) was an American manufacturer and politician from New York.

Derby was born on June 20, 1845, in Sandy Hill (now Hudson Falls), New York.

[1] When Derby was 16 he joined his father (a railroad contractor) as the latter worked in western New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

John and Margaret had four children: George Hamilton (1875–1875), Archibald Steuart (1876–1973), Anna Louise O'Hara (1879–1918).

In 1891, he was elected to the New York State Senate, where he represented the 16th District (Rensselaer and Washington counties).
