John Henry Hayes (14 October 1887 – 25 April 1941) was a British police officer, trade unionist and politician.
[1] The strike received support in Liverpool, and Hayes became involved in the politics of the city.
[1] He was defeated by the Conservative incumbent, but won the seat during the 1923 by-election to become the first Labour Member of Parliament in Liverpool[1] and the first policeman to sit in the Commons.
[3] In the 1924 government he became Parliamentary Private Secretary to Pensions Minister Frederick Roberts, and he was a member of the party's national executive in 1926 and 1927.
[4][6] He refused to join the National Government of 1931, and lost his seat in the October election later that year.
