[1] John Hervey (18 August 1616 – 18 January 1680) was an English courtier and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1661 to 1679.
In 1664 he became Fellow of the Royal Society and was a leading shareholder in the Duke of York's theatre.
On the next day he went into the government lobby and when the King remarked "You were not against me to-day", Hervey replied "No, sir.
[1] Hervey died at the age of 64 and was buried at St Mary's Church, Ickworth.
He had no issue and the estate passed to his younger brother Sir Thomas Hervey.
