John Kennedy (public servant)

Kennedy was born on 7 February 1884 in Leichhardt, Sydney and was educated at Christian Brothers' High School, Lewisham.

[3] He left Adelaide in 1936 when appointed customs collector in Victoria.

[4] In November 1943, Kennedy was appointed Assistant Controller-General (administrative).

[5] From 6 July 1944 to his retirement on 6 February 1949, Kennedy was Head of the Department of Trade and Customs.

[6][7] Kennedy's retirement dinner was held at the Federal Hotel and attendees included Senator Ben Courtice, then Minister for Trade and Customs.
