John Merry Ross (1833–1883) was a Scottish academic author and teacher.
[2] Ross trained as a United Presbyterian minister but quit after three terms to instead be sub-editor of Chambers Encyclopedia.
In 1866 he was appointed Senior English Master at the Royal High School, Edinburgh.
[4] Ross lived his final years at 30 Great King Street in Edinburgh's Second New Town.
[5] He died in Edinburgh on 3 February 1883, aged 49,[1] and was buried in Warriston Cemetery.
