Settle attended Rockingham County High School in Reidsville, North Carolina.
Settle signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 1987 and played six seasons in the NFL.
Some of the players he coached included: Jaime Kimbrough, Paris Gaines, Derrick Ward, Rodney Davis, Dwayne Wright, Bryson Sumlin, and Wendell Mathis.
