In the 2012–13 season, the duo missed the JGP series and finished 22nd at the 2013 World Junior Championships in Milan.

In 2013–14, Smart/Buckland placed seventh at both of their JGP assignments, Poland and the Czech Republic, and finished 10th at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.

In October 2014, they placed fourth at the Ondrej Nepela Trophy, an ISU Challenger Series event.

In November, they won silver medals at the International Cup of Nice and NRW Trophy before taking the British national title in the absence of Penny Coomes / Nicholas Buckland.

Smart/Buckland withdrew from the 2015 European Championships before the short dance, Buckland having fallen ill with gastroenteritis.
