In 1802 he received his medical doctorate in Paris, where in 1822 he obtained his agrégation at the faculty of medicine.
In 1823 he became a member of the Académie Nationale de Médecine.
In 1810, Capuron and physiologist Pierre-Hubert Nysten (1771–1818) published a second edition of the dictionary.
Afterwards, there were numerous revisions and editions (as well as changes to the title of the dictionary) by Nysten, Émile Littré (1801–1881), et al.
