Joshua Dawson (1660–1725) was an Anglo-Irish public servant, land developer and politician[1][2] of the Kingdom of Ireland.
He was appointed clerk to the Chief Secretary of Ireland, Matthew Prior, in 1697.
[3] He became the Collector of Dublin in 1703, and held the office of Chief Secretary for Ireland to the Lords Justices[4] from 1710 under Queen Anne.
He was a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Irish House of Commons for Wicklow from 1705 to 1714.
This development included the construction of the Mansion House in Dawson Street in 1710 which was purchased in 1715 to be the official residence of the Mayor of Dublin – which it has remained for 300 years.
