Justin Girod-Chantrans (26 September 1750 in Besançon – 1 April 1841 in Besançon) was a French naturalist known for his pioneering research in the field of phycology.
Following studies with the Jesuits, he entered the Ecole du Génie militaire in 1768.
He attained the title of captain in 1777, and subsequently served at various military posts, including Saint-Domingue, until 1791.
In 1799 he founded the Société d'agriculture, commerce et arts in Besançon.
From 1810 on, he devoted all his time and energy to the natural sciences.
