The is no station building but only a small short open shelter on the platform.
When it first opened, it was an interchange station with one island platform and two tracks.
The station building was renovated into a tourist information center and coffee shop in 1987 and demolished in 2002.
With the privatization of Japanese National Railways (JNR), the successor of JGR, on 1 April 1987, JR Kyushu took over control of the station.
