Kate Torney

Kate Torney OAM has had a 30-year career spanning, journalism and media, the creative industries and the development sectors.

She is currently CEO of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation and was formerly the CEO of the State Library of Victoria from 2015 to 2021[1] where she led an $88 million redevelopment of the heritage building, which attracts 11 million visitors each year.

In this role she oversaw all news and current affairs content for the national broadcaster, from radio and television bulletins to long-form programs including Four Corners and Australian Story.

Before her role as Director, Kate worked in a variety of roles, including as a radio and TV reporter, producer, bureau chief, executive producer and editor.

[3] Kate served as member and former Chair of National and State Libraries Australia (NSLA),[4] and currently serves on the board of The Conversation and is Chair of the Wheeler Centre.
