His brother Casey Candaele is a former Major League Baseball player for the Houston Astros and Montreal Expos and manager for the Toronto Bluejays Triple A team in Buffalo, New York.

In 2010 he traveled to Spain to produce the documentary film El Clasico - More Than a Game, about the historic soccer (football) rivalry between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
