He graduated as a Staff Captain in 1912 and participated in the First Balkan War that year.

During the Battle of Sakarya, he was assigned to defend Mangaldağı under the command of the 2nd Corps, led by Selahattin Adil.

He was forced to abandon Mangaldağı when the Greek assault began on the afternoon of August 23, 1921, and was unable to hold out any longer.

After the victory of the War of Independence, he was promoted to the rank of colonel on August 31, 1922.

He was awarded the Medal of Independence with a red ribbon and a Certificate of Appreciation.
