Killykeskeame

Killykeskeame (Irish: Cill Choiscéim) is a townland in the Civil Parish of Killeevan, in the Barony of Dartree, County Monaghan.

[1] The name Killykeskeame is an anglicisation of the Gaelic "Cill Choiscéim" which means the 'Church of the Footstep', referencing a medieval chapel that once was located in the townland.

Human activity from the Iron Age is attested from the presence of a ring fort, which are common archaeological features in drumlin landscape County Monaghan.

[3][page needed] The medieval chapel which gives the townland its name is, by folk tradition, associated with the MacMahon Lords of Dartree.

Throughout the Parishes of Killeevan and Aghabog, Irish words continue to be used in ordinary speech, especially for things relating to nature, agriculture and the landscape.
