The large chequered skipper (Heteropterus morpheus) is a species of butterfly in the family Hesperiidae.
The species can be found in isolated populations in Europe and east across the Palearctic to Central Asia and Korea.
The butterfly has a very distinctive and attractive underside but a drab upperside (which is rarely seen, as it usually settles with wings closed).
Some females have on the hindwing a row of 4 or 5 yellow dashes and a small dot in the cell.
The forewing bears beneath a spot in the cell, another proximally to the apical dots and a narrow short band near the margin.
