[1] The west side of the township is drained by Sturgeon Creek, a south-flowing tributary of the Tittabawassee River and part of the Saginaw River watershed, while the east side is drained by tributaries of the Kawkawlin River, which flows east to Lake Huron just north of the mouth of the Saginaw.
As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 4,514 people, 1,502 households, and 1,288 families residing in the township.
There were 1,542 housing units at an average density of 47.1 per square mile (18.2/km2).
There were 1,502 households, out of which 45.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 79.1% were married couples living together, 3.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.2% were non-families.
12.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 3.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
