Laura Fortunato is an evolutionary anthropologist whose research investigates the evolution of human social and cultural behavior.
She investigates topics such as the evolution of kinship and marriage systems, social complexity and culture.
[2] She is also an External Professor and a member of the Science Steering Committee at the Santa Fe Institute.
[4] Other areas of work include open research, especially the provision of training of related practices, and effective computing for research reproducibility utilizing free and open source software.
[5] In September 2023 Fortunato was awarded a Title of Distinction of Professor of Evolutionary Anthropology, backdated to 2021, by the University of Oxford.
