Laurie Gwen Shapiro is an American writer and filmmaker born and raised in New York City, where she currently resides.
Shapiro is a graduate of Stuyvesant High School and Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Communications (1988).
Her 2001 documentary film Keep the River on Your Right: A Modern Cannibal Tale, which she co-produced and co-directed with her brother David, received numerous awards,[1] including: Her semi-autobiographical first novel, The Unexpected Salami, was named an ALA Notable Book in 1998.
