Lauritz Nelson

Lauritz Nelson (March 26, 1860 – September 16, 1944) was a sailor serving in the United States Navy during the Spanish–American War who received the Medal of Honor for bravery.

Later he was sent to fight in the Spanish–American War aboard the torpedo boat USS Nashville as a sailmaker's mate.

[1] Lauritz retired from the navy in 1905 with the rank of Chief Boatswain's Mate.

[2] He died September 16, 1944, and is buried at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.

Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Nelson displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action.
