Lauterbach (German pronunciation: [ˈlaʊtɐbax] ⓘ) is a village in the municipality of Brixen im Thale in Austria with 714 inhabitants (as of 15 May 2001).
The settlement of Lauterbach is located at about 800 metres (2,600 ft) above sea level, east of the centre of Brixen.
Its name comes from the mountain stream of Lauterbach that has significantly affected the development of the settlement for centuries.
The reason for the rapid growth in population in recent decades is due, on the one hand, to land prices, and on the other to the farmers who lived there.
Large rocks filled the stream bed to such an extent that water poured into the centre of the village and tore away anything that stood in its way.
Work parties laboured into the early hours of the morning in order to prevent further flooding.
