Lawrence Public Schools (Massachusetts)

The Massachusetts Department of Education took control of the school district in 2011 due to low performance of schools; the district was at the 1% at the low end in comparison to other school districts in the state.

[1] The state established the school board Lawrence Alliance for Education and appointed its members.

[2] In 2014, WBUR reported there were higher test scores.

[3] In 2021 groups of parents advocated for allowing for an elected school board to again govern the district.

[4] In 2024, the school district selected Ralph Carrero as the next superintendent.
