Leigh Hackspace

The Hackspace was founded as a UK Community interest company in 2015[1] by a group of local enthusiasts keen to develop the town's digital and creative facilities, and it has since grown into one of the North West UK's most active and largest hackspaces,[2] at over 4000 ft2.

The joint official opening was held on 13 February 2015,[4] and the organisation's Facebook Group was able to be renamed, removing the word 'Virtual'.

In 2016, the hackspace moved[5] to larger premises at The Cotton Mill, Mather Lane, Leigh.

The hackspace now consists of three separate units within the mill, with dedicated workshop and craft areas.

[7] The hackspace is active within the Leigh voluntary community and has run a variety of themed maker days and Hack Days, including Wigan Council 'Deal in Action' Hackathon,[8] the Young Rewired State Festival of Code,[9] and GM HackFest 2016.
