Lena Cymbrowitz (January 1, 1957[3][4] – August 21, 2000)[3] was an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly.
[2] While in office, she had advocated for increasing monies allocated for mammographs.
[3] In November 1998, following a New York Times endorsement in a September primary, about which they commented that "nomination is tantamount to election"[5] she was elected in the 45th District's general election to the New York State Assembly, receiving over 70% of the votes cast.
[6] This made her the first Sephardic Jew ever elected to state office.
The Lena Cymbrowitz Distinguished Legislator Award was named in her memory.
