[3] After receiving her master's degree in history from the University of Auckland,[3] she started her acting career at Shortland Street portraying Li Mei Chen, who was once described as "mean and cantankerous".
[2] Her character initially began as a medical student, who quickly graduated to doctor, and was known for her ambition and abrasive manner.
[3] Hu later emigrated to the United States[2] and as of 2018, was in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago masters programme.
