Eddie's Aunt Kate (Francine York), his mom's sister, is in town visiting.
He believes that Eddie's memory of the loss of his mom is so fresh that he wants to shelter him from a painful reminder.
Kate is quite different from how Tom remembers – a member of the jet set, flighty and overbearing.
She spends a day with Eddie, gambling, attending a cocktail party, bringing Eddie home decked out in a Nehru jacket and love beads flashing a peace sign (the show's perspective of a hippie) even encouraging him to tell a white lie about Norman.
Tom feels that Kate is a bad influence and asks her to no longer be a part of Eddie's life.
