This is an incomplete list of U.S. college nicknames.

Generally, athletics are mainly branded by their common name, meaning words like "University of" or "College" are usually omitted and only the unique name elements are used.

For example, the University of Minnesota is only known as "Minnesota", San Diego State University as "San Diego State", and so on.

Nonetheless, if a team's common name is different, it is displayed in parenthesis, for example, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), United States Military Academy (Army), University of California, Berkeley (California), etcetera.
