List of ambassadors of Germany to Turkey

List of German ambassadors in Turkey contains the envoys and ambassadors of the German Empire and the Federal Republic of Germany in the Ottoman Empire (until 1918) and in Turkey (from 1924).

The seat of the legation or embassy was originally Istanbul, but since 1928 it has been in Ankara.

[1] The following lists diplomats from the founding of the German Empire (1871), although individual German countries had been sending diplomatic representatives to the Bosporus or Asia Minor for significantly longer.

Since the early 16th century, the Roman-German emperors maintained a permanent imperial embassy at the Sublime Porte; other German states mostly maintained agencies or consulates that were gradually declared to be accredited legations, such as: Saxony (from 1712), Prussia (from 1756) or the Free Hanseatic Cities (from 1841).

The official rank and title of Germany's highest-ranking representative was from 1871 to 1895 and from 1924 to 1933: "Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary."
