This is a list of department stores of the United Kingdom.

This list does not include large specialist stores, which sometimes resemble department stores.

The business closed in 1972 due to competitionfrom multiples.

The business was purchased by Garfield Weston though his subsidiary Howardsgate Holdings in the 1950s, before being moved to his company Associated British Foods in 1963.

It was bought by the John Lewis Partnership in 1983 and renamed John Lewis in 1984.
