Violent typhoon is the highest category used by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) to classify tropical cyclones in the Northwest Pacific basin.
A violent typhoon is defined as a tropical cyclone that has 10-minute sustained wind speeds of at least 105 knots (194 km/h; 121 mph).
