[5] Born on 15 July 1958 in Løkken in north-western Jutland, Lone Træholt matriculated from Brønderslev Gymnasium in 1977.
She had initially considered studying biology but her elder brother, who was an air force pilot, convinced her to follow in his footsteps.
[2] As a result of her lengthy service as a woman in the Danish military, Træholt has followed how attitudes to women's recruitment have evolved over the years.
She hopes that her promotion to rank of general will give her opportunities to encourage more women to join up and remain for longer than they usually do in comparison to men.
[3] While Træholt generally feels she has been treated on an equal basis with men, she recognizes that in her early years she was not permitted to fly in Denmark.
