For his entire life, Louis was third in line of succession to the throne behind his father and grandfather.
He was styled Duke of Brittany, the first to hold the title since Henry II, nearly 200 years prior.
[1]Louis XIV was sixty-six years old when he held in his arms his first great-grandchild, the heir to his throne and his great kingdom.
On 13 April 1705, Louis died of convulsions at the age of nine and a half months,[2]: 176–177 [3]to the despair of his parents.
He never received the public ceremonial of baptism, and lived and died with out a name, being known simply as the Duc de Brittany.
