[1] Lower Caversham, as well as the remainder of Reading north of the Thames lies in the historic county of Oxfordshire.

The area lies entirely within the Caversham ward of the borough of Reading.

As a unitary authority, the borough is responsible for all aspects of local government within the area.

[2] Lower Caversham encompasses George Street on which Reading Bridge is situated.

To the east of George Street is also Hills Meadow where the annual Reading Winter Wonderland fair is held.
