Luis A. Gonzalez is an American attorney who served as Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, First Judicial Department in New York from 2009–2015.
[1][2][3] Gonzalez was born in Manati, Puerto Rico and raised in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan in a family of seven.
His father had been a carpenter in Puerto Rico and worked in a candy factory in New York.
in History and Social Science and earned a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School in 1975.
He was the first person of Puerto Rican descent to hold the position of Presiding Justice.
