Located in the southern center of the county, it borders the following townships: No municipalities are located in Lynn Township.
[4] The township's name most likely comes from the linden trees which were once abundant there, although a share of the pioneer settlers had the last name Lynn.
[6] According to his obituary, Sgt John Wesley Flinn (1823-1901) built the first cabin after the township was organized in 1859.
The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
There is also an elected township fiscal officer,[7] who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election.
