Mahboub Maalim (Somali: Maxbuub Macalin, Arabic: محبوب معلم; born 1958)[1] is a Kenyan diplomat.
[5][6] A civil engineer by profession and a veteran rural development expert,[7] he previously served as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation in Kenya.
[8] [9] Maalim's appointment came at a time when IGAD was gaining visibility as a lead Regional Economic Community (REC) on peace, security and development agenda.
[12] In 2012, he led the launch of the IGAD Drought Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) which provides a regional platform for a coordinated response to drought and other national emergencies with an emphasis on improving resilience of citizens inhabiting the region's vast arid and semi arid areas.
[16][17] However, the mediation process and subsequent efforts of IGAD alongside the African Union, UN and global partners are yet to achieve lasting peace in South Sudan.
