Maialen Chourraut

Maialen Chourraut Yurramendi (born 8 March 1983) is a Spanish slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level representing Spain since 2000.

She won the gold medal in the K1 event at the 2016 Summer Olympics[1] in Rio de Janeiro.

She also competed in the K1 event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, but was eliminated in the heats and finished in 16th place.

[2] Chourraut won two individual medals in the K1 event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with a silver in 2009 and a bronze in 2011.

The sailor Tamara Echegoyen was competing at her fourth Olympics and she was chosen to replace her as she had the next most outstanding record.
