[2] Barton served as a Jackson County Supervisor for 12 years prior to his time in the Mississippi Legislature from 2000 to 2012.
[4][5] As supervisor, Barton testified to the House of Representatives on the effects of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on South Mississippi.
[6] Upon the retirement of state Rep. Frank Hamilton, Barton decided to run for the 109th district in the Mississippi House of Representatives.
[8] In 2020, Barton voted in favor of changing the Mississippi state flag after pressure from Speaker Phillip Gunn and his wife.
[12] Barton is a member of the Military Order Purple Heart, American Legion, VFW, National Rifle Association of America, and East Central Civic Organization.
